For the past few years, Tropical Modern Architecture has been the leading trending style of architecture in residential housing in Miami, Florida. 4490 Henderson Road is a 15,000+ sq.ft private living arrangement intended to characterize extravagance living in Ontario absorbing inspiration through Miami's state-of-the-art technology and home construction.

This project aims to re-imagine how we can build homes in Ontario based on other building construction techniques. For survival during colder climates, the large glass panels, concrete, wood, fiberglass panels, and aluminum accents shelter the entire home and allow us to replicate Tropical Modern Architecture within Canada. Its choice of local earth-filled products strengthens its place in rural Milton and gives it its distinctive esthetic. The whole project is situated on a narrow topography of 4 acres.

The whole project is situated on a narrow topography of 3.5 acres. The house is built on an H-shaped plan with the home's separate wings extending out over different areas. The plan includes four bedrooms, six bathrooms, a pool that can be seen through the basement bar wall, four separate garage spaces that connect via underground tunnels to the main residence, and a movie theatre.

The three floors are connected through two sets of staircases and a full glass elevator. Traditional concrete, wood, and steel frames connect the entire structure. An exquisite grand entrance captures a modern experience and expresses an inviting ingress for the unorthodox structure. Continuing with the Tropical Architecture theme, Concrete, Glass, Fibre Glass Panels, and Aluminum & Wood accents are the 5 main materials that make up the exterior of the home.

Customized twenty-foot steel beams were designed with additional wide flanges to reduce access Moment of Inertia rotations within the beam spam. The two rows of beams are earthquake-proof and structurally uphold a 5000 square-foot area that houses a hobby garage. Hollow 4 foot wide concrete slabs sit lightly onto the customized steel beams, where the dead load is then transferred to any of the six 6x6” hollow square HSS columns that direct the mechanical load to the concrete foundations below.
